How virtual imagery can reduce your carbon footprint in a post-Covid19 world

Today is World Environment Day, a day to increase awareness of and encourage action for the protection of our environment. The current Covid-19 pandemic has had a dramatic impact on CO2 emissions, with experts predicting that it will be responsible for the biggest ever recorded drop in carbon output within the last century. While lockdowns across the world have decreased electricity usage, it is the massive reduction in travel by road and air that is thought to be having the most impact on CO2 levels. With many people now being more aware of the environmental impact of their lifestyle and actions, there is an opportunity for the global recovery from the effects of coronavirus to have a greener focus. If people who are able to continue to work flexibly and from home, if commuters walk or cycle to work rather than drive or use public transport, and if national and international business travel becomes less frequent, CO2 emissions could continue to stabilise. We hope that the Covid-19 pandemic will inspire alternative, more environmentally friendly solutions for running businesses in the future.

Render Studio can help brands to have less environmental impact by creating virtual shoots based anywhere in the world. We can showcase your brand or experience using numerous platforms with minimal to no travel; this will not only decrease carbon footprint but also help to reduce overall marketing budgets.

We have extensive experience in creating computer generated visuals of products and packaging, interiors and architecture. Our work includes static and animated computer generated images (CGIs) as well as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) solutions. We pride ourselves on producing a photorealistic quality within all of our imagery and can create specific backdrops, props, lighting and atmosphere to create high impact imagery and help clients to deliver a successful campaign. We have produced visuals set in various locations, all from the comfort of our studio beside the Scottish sea. Here are some of our favourites:

The Macallan’s Easter Elchies Black, Scottish Highlands

The Macallan’s Easter Elchies Black is a rare single malt that was inspired by an autumn evening at Easter Elchies estate in the Scottish Highlands, where The Macallan is produced. We created a series of photorealistic CGIs and animations of the Easter Elchies Black bottle in the beautiful setting of the Macallan estate. As part of the project, we used a photo of the spiritual home of The Macallan, Easter Elchies house, and placed it within our virtual environment. These visuals convey the mood of an autumnal dusk through our rendering of the lighting and background colours, as well as the reflections in the glass bottle, while our animations include falling leaves to represent the season. Our work was featured as part of the global campaign advertising this limited edition single malt and is used on The Macallan’s website and as part of their print and digital strategy.

Born & Raised wines, Australia

Born & Raised make a range of natural and sustainable wines from the Victorian region of Australia. We were commissioned to produce a series of photorealistic product renders of their range of wines, including the bottles in a natural 3D environment with a classic “Australian afternoon” feeling. We were able to evoke the requested atmosphere by producing lighting reminiscent of warm late afternoon sunshine, complete with long shadows and corresponding reflections in the glass of the wine bottles. We also created a number of secondary staging props such as a branded ice bucket, glassware and coasters. While we would have loved to take a “work” trip down under, we were able to create these beautiful images without travelling to the other side of the world.

Storywood Tequila, Mexico

Storywood Tequila is a product of two cultures and two national drinks combined - made in Mexico but aged in ex-Scotch whisky barrels to create new flavours. We were asked to produce a series of CGIs encompassing “a little piece of Mexico” for the launch of this exciting new tequila. We created the required look by using harsh sunlight and distressed plaster walls paired with aged timber in our renders. Working on this project transported us virtually to colourful and vibrant Mexico, which really cheered us up during a long Scottish winter! In addition to being used for the product launch, our images are now a part of Storywood’s print and digital strategy and also feature as pack shots on online retail sites such as Amazon.
